Spd wants 30-hour week for young parents
“On the one hand, there are many women who have to leave their jobs more than they want to. And on the other hand, we have people who would like to spend more time with their children,” SPD secretary general andrea nahles told the deutsche presse-agentur (dpa). The FDP rejected the advance.
The solution, in cooperation with the employers, could be a reduction in working hours for a limited period of two to three years, said nahles. The state was able to absorb part of the losses. The idea should become part of the SPD election program 2013. SPD candidate for chancellor peer steinbruck supports the idea of such a working time model.
The SPD wants to create new incentives for citizens between 25 and 40 years of age. “This would be an offer after parental leave, so that families could have more time for their children by reducing their working hours for two or three years. We want to equalize the rush hour of life between the ages of 25 and 40,” said nahles. “This may also help to avoid a career break for women who have been out of work for too long.
“It is very sad that germany has been at the bottom of the league for families and children for years, said the SPD secretary-general.
FDP secretary general patrick doring told berlin’s “tagesspiegel” newspaper about nahles’ proposal: “the SPD is finally losing its grip on the ground in its hunt for votes with its spending pants. Germany cannot and will not afford a 30-hour workweek for a large part of the population.
