Triad of wine, radish and renaissance

The culture trail “vine-rape-renaissance” from segnitz to sulzfeld is indeed the 107. European cultural trail, but still a special one: because it is only the fourth within the intermunicipal alliance maindreieck and the first to span two counties, as the route also touches the frickenhauser gemarkung in the county of wurzburg. “The project has brought us communities together a bit”, the mayor of segnitz, marlene bauer, and her colleague from sulzfeld, gerhard schenkel, agreed with her during a press interview.
Starting and finishing points for the 13-kilometer-long trail are at the mainland in segnitz and sulzfeld, respectively, and the key words are wine, horticulture, nature, history and renaissance. The path through nature is attractive for citizens and tourists alike, as alliance manager bastian lange pointed out. The trail includes eight stations plus the sulzfeld viewing platform weinhalla and on the segnitz side the small anger with the archaeological excavations. At the so-called “dreilandereck”, the districts of segnitz, sulzfeld and frickenhausen meet, and at the “segnitzer spitze” the on frickenhauser mark there is another information board. The information boards are additionally equipped with QR-codes for users of mobile devices. The idea for the project was born in the intermunicipal alliance and put into practice by a working group that had been set up. The project, which cost a total of 18,000 euros, is demanded by the district of lower franconia and the two communities contribute the remaining amount of 8,000 euros each.
“The people in the working group developed the content and acted as moderators”, explained gerrit himmelsbach of the archaological spessart project (ASP) at the lower franconian institute for cultural landscape research at the university of wurzburg. “It’s about one’s own identity and the question, who am i anyway??”, said himmelsbach. The result is a path with interesting information and details, such as about the artist and politician hans kesenbrod or albrecht durer, who have left their mark in both communities. The members of the working group had studied their own history, and many were amazed at what distinguished the other community and what history had brought to light. Himmelsbach was impressed by the sulzfeld dance hall “kite grotto”, where the party was once high and many youthful experiences were remembered.
Impression on the cultural landscape researcher the view from the weinhalla viewing platform. He made it clear that authentic sites and information boards is important for such a project, because those who follow such a path want to be entertained and informed about what they see. “Your wine princess with a rettich in front of the backdrop of the sulzfeld town hall is a great motif to symbolize grapevine, rettich and renaissance”, said hans himmelsbach. Anika von brunn didn’t have to ask twice and mimed biting into the crunchy radish in front of the picturesque backdrop of the old town of sulzfeld. Afterwards, the members of the working group sat down on the banks of the river main in sulzfeld to round off the presentation of the project while enjoying wine and radish.
The communities of segnitz and sulzfeld invite you to the festive inauguration of the european cultural trail “vine – rettich – renaissance” on wednesday, 1. May, a. At 9 a.M. The hikers start in segnitz and are buried at 12 noon sulzfelder in sulzfeld.
